Ghana's Military

Alhaji Mohammed Nasiru, a member of the National Democratic Congress communications team has called on the government to create jobs for the youth, especially Muslim youth so they don’t fall prey to terrorist advances.

The comment follows terrorism threat alert on the country after three terror attacks in two weeks targeting Christian worshippers in Ghana’s northern neighbour, Burkina Faso. The attacks have revived concerns about the country’s preparedness to contain similar attacks.

According to Mr Nasiru, most Islamic youth are found in terrorist groups because they are unemployed and are easily lured to join them.

“One thing they use to get people in our communities is focusing on unemployed youth so for us to make sure these things stop we must create jobs for them,” he stated on Peace FM, monitored by Adomonline.

He noted that terrorist groups are not religious based and not linked to the Islamic religion as most people think.

“They are separate groups with their own perceptions and ideologies it’s rather unfortunate that most Islamic youth are lured to join them. I know a lot of Muslim scholars who are against these groups who fight and create chaos in the name of protecting Islam.”
