Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe, believes the Black Stars can enjoy a strong campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup if they begin their tournament on a winning note.
Ghana are set to make their fifth appearance at football’s global showpiece in North America, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Reflecting on the team’s prospects, Pappoe stressed that the opening match could be decisive in shaping Ghana’s fortunes in the competition.
“The way I see the thing is like we are at a barrier, and if we can scale it, there is no limit to how far we can go during the tournament, and the barrier is Panama, and if we can cross that, I believe we can go far with the rest of our group games,” he told Sporty FM.Â
Ghana begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23. Their final group match comes against Croatia on June 27.
Ahead of the tournament, the Black Stars, under Carlos Queiroz, will step up preparations with friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
