Nana Afia Ofosua Danquah I, Queen Mother of Akyem Sagyimase and Okyeman Nifaaman Baamuhemaa, has officially launched the Nana Afia Ofosua Foundation, an initiative aimed at improving the lives of young people, women, children, the aged and other vulnerable members of society.
The launch ceremony, held on July 11, 2026, was attended by several government officials and traditional leaders who pledged their support for the foundation’s vision.
Among the dignitaries present were the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, Member of Parliament for Akyem Abuakwa South, Kingsley Agyeman, and the Municipal Chief Executive for Abuakwa South, Addo Aikins Junior.
According to the Queen Mother, the foundation seeks to create opportunities for the youth by equipping them with practical vocational and craftsmanship skills to promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
Beyond youth empowerment, the foundation also aims to improve access to education for children through various support initiatives, while providing healthcare assistance and other forms of relief to the elderly and vulnerable within the community.
Speaking at the launch, Nana Afia Ofosua Danquah I said the foundation was established out of a desire to complement community development efforts by investing in people and preserving the welfare of future generations.
The foundation’s vision is to empower queen mothers as catalysts for positive change by preserving cultural heritage while promoting education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, youth development and sustainable community growth.
Its mission also focuses on bringing together queen mothers to champion community development through advocacy, leadership, education, social welfare, cultural preservation and strategic partnerships that improve the lives of women, children and vulnerable groups.
The launch marks the beginning of what organisers say will be a long-term commitment to community development, with plans to roll out educational support programmes, vocational training initiatives and healthcare interventions across Akyem Sagyimase and surrounding communities.
