Former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo has rubbished claims by the Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement, Sarah Adwoa Safo that the Mahama-led administration looted state resources through dubious contracts running into millions of Ghana cedis.

According to him, Adwoa Safo is just scoring political point for accusing the previous administration of such dubious deals.

“Adwoa Safo just wants to score political point over such claims against the previous Mahama government. If the NPP says we used sole sourcing to create loot and share state funds, I won’t say anything but we want them to show competency” Afotey-Agbo stated.

Afotey-Agbo who is also the Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso was speaking Monday on Adom FM’s Burning Issues programme hosted by Afia Pokua.

Addressing a training program on Public Procurement for Ministers and Agencies, Adwoa Safo, also the MP for Dome Kwabenya accused the Mahama-led administration of abusing the sole-sourcing element of the procurement laws.

She explained that by the method, several contracts were awarded to cronies and families resulting in “dubiously inflated contract costs for purposes of creating, looting and sharing”.

But responding to the claims leveled by the minister against the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) tenure in office, Afotey-Agbo said if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) claims to be competent enough, they should display and exhibit competence in government as they claimed in opposition.

“They have four years to run the show and nobody is disputing it but they should display and exhibit competence to Ghanaians” the Kpone-Katamanso legislature told the NPP government.
