The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, will pursue his GH¢15 million defamation suit against the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, to its logical conclusion despite a High Court decision setting aside the writ.
His lawyer, F. Paa Kwesi Abaidoo, said the legal team had instructions from Mr Afenyo-Markin to continue with the matter and was awaiting the court’s written ruling to determine the next course of action.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Dehyena Chambers said the High Court, General Jurisdiction 1, presided over by Justice Akwasi Adjenim Boateng, set aside the writ because the alleged defamatory words attributed to Mr Gyamfi had not been sufficiently particularised.
The law firm said it had not received a copy of the ruling from the court registry as of 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
It indicated that the legal team would study the ruling before deciding on its next steps.
The lawyers expressed concern over what they described as Mr Gyamfi’s use of procedural obstacles rather than filing a defence to the allegations underlying the suit.
According to the statement, Mr Gyamfi had previously made categorical allegations against Mr Afenyo-Markin, claimed to have evidence to support them and challenged him to sue.
The lawyers argued that procedural irregularities could be remedied under Ghanaian civil jurisprudence, citing Supreme Court authorities and Order 81 of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2004 (C.I. 47).
They maintained that the court’s decision would not deter their client from pursuing the case.
“We will not be deterred by procedural setbacks. The Mills of Justice grind slowly, but with great surety,” the statement said.
The legal team said it would await the full ruling before determining the appropriate legal steps to take.
