The family of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has expressed deep worry over her condition following the shooting incident at the Kristo Asafo Mission premises, saying her chances of survival currently stand at “50/50”.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, June 25, the family’s spokesperson, Dr. Emmanuel Boakye, gave a worrying update on her health.
“The survival of Adwoa Safo, in percentage terms, I will say, is 50/50. The situation is very bad. She has undergone surgical operations, check-ups and other medical procedures almost every day.
“The latest was around 8 p.m. yesterday. She can’t even hear. I don’t know if she has any pellets in her ears; they removed some from her ears. I understand some of the pellets also entered her head. They are working on it. We need your prayers,” he stated.
Dr. Boakye revealed that Adwoa Safo sustained multiple gunshot wounds while seated in her vehicle as she tried to serve her brother, Kwadwo Safo Akofena, with a court order to stop his planned installation as successor to their late father.
He added that doctors have strongly advised the family to take her abroad for further specialist treatment due to the severity of her injuries.
“The doctors are advising that, considering her condition, we do everything possible to take her abroad for further treatment. The situation is very serious. If I am told today that Adwoa is dead, I will not be surprised. Her body and head are swollen,” Dr. Boakye stated.
Meanwhile, the nine individuals, including Kwadwo Safo Akofena, who are facing charges in connection with the shooting, have been granted bail by the Adenta Circuit Court.
Each was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties.
The family continues to appeal for prayers as Adwoa Safo remains in critical condition.
