President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo may have bitten a bit more tha he can chew when he promised to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

The bove is the verdict of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ASADU Royal Waste, Dr Edward Asadu about the promise which he says will only remain a dream without certain structures.

Mr Asadu’s verdict is premised on the absence of a proper landfill site for the dumping of refuse generated within the city.

President Akufo-Addo made the pledge to solve the sanitation problem in Accra at a gathering where he was intalled as chief by the people of Jamestown and the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council, under the title Nii Kwaku Abladey Okudzeaman I.

“The commitment we are making and which I want you all to make with me is that by the time we end our four-year term, Accra is going to be the cleanest city in Africa,” he stated.

But Dr Asadu, on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Monday, said it would be difficult, if not impossible for the President to fulfill the promise.

He explained that the only landfill site at Kpone near Tema wasn’t big enough for the filth generated in Accra.

The waste management expert cited how trucks queue sometimes for a week at the Kpone disposal site just to dump refuse at the only landfill site to buttress his point.

“Despite the enormous amount of waste generated daily, the country relies massively on landfill sites for disposing of refuse so how can the President make Accra the cleanest city,” he asked.

Dr  Asadu said the only way of fulfiling the presiden’t promise on sanitation is for government to provide another landfill site for the disposal of refuse.
