As the contest for the National Organiser position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) gathers momentum, the experience, credentials and organisational capabilities of aspirants have become subjects of growing discussion within the party.
One name attracting attention in mainstream and social media is Abass Mustapha Osabutey, popularly known as Capo.
His supporters and grassroots members describe him as a strong contender for the position, citing his affability, accessibility, organisational experience and mobilisation skills.
For Mr Osabutey, entering the race is not merely about adding to the number of contenders but about making a meaningful contribution to the party’s future.
His stated mission is to strengthen the NDC’s organisational structures, secure victory in the 2028 general elections and build a resilient party machinery capable of sustaining its political influence for generations.
In an exclusive interview with The Exposé, Mr Osabutey said electoral victories were built long before election day through effective organisation and grassroots mobilisation.
“Every electoral victory is first won long before election day. It is won through disciplined organisation, vibrant party structures, and committed grassroots operatives,” he said.
He explained that his decision to contest was driven by a desire to strengthen the party’s organisational wing and equip it to respond to the demands of a modern political environment.
“This decision is not born out of personal ambition. It is born out of conviction, experience, and an unwavering belief that our Organisational Wing must continue to evolve to meet the demands of a modern, dynamic, and election-winning political party,” he stated.
From the branch to the national level
Mr Osabutey brings more than 20 years of party service to his bid, according to his profile. His supporters point to this experience as evidence of his understanding of the party’s structures and the practical demands of grassroots organisation.
Party insiders describe him as a field operative who understands the importance of mobilisation and effective coordination in building a strong political organisation.
They argue that the National Organiser must be able to coordinate, motivate and equip party organisers at every level, from the branches to the national leadership, while ensuring that grassroots structures remain active and effective.
Security experience and strategic mobilisation
Another aspect of Mr Osabutey’s profile is his background in security strategy. He is said to have worked as a security strategist and consultant for local and international organisations for close to a decade.
His supporters believe this experience could complement his party organisational work, particularly in strategic planning, operational coordination and managing the demands of a nationwide political campaign.
As he seeks support from delegates, Mr Osabutey is presenting his experience and vision as the foundation for strengthening the NDC’s organisational capacity ahead of the next general election.
He is appealing to delegates for their support, prayers and partnership, with a call for collective commitment to the party’s goals.
“Together, let us organise with purpose, mobilise with discipline, and win with confidence,” he said.
He has risen through the party ranks, serving in various capacities, including branch secretary and chairman, ward coordinator, constituency executive member, party and government communications team member.
Others include election-day transportation strategy chairman, Head of Operations and Strategy for the New Edubiase Constituency, and Head of Security and Intelligence for the 2024 Presidential Campaign Secretariat in the Ashanti Region.
