The Adansi Akwamuhene, Nana Kwadu Kwakye II, has called on the police to arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable in the controversy surrounding the Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
He has also urged the public to remain calm, assuring that the truth must emerge and justice must prevail as investigations into the matter continue.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Nana Kwadu Kwakye II said the traditional authorities were informed about the issue by some old students of the school about two weeks ago, a development he described as shocking.
He said the concerns prompted him to convene a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday involving the police, the District Chief Executive (DCE) and education directors to discuss the matter and agree on the way forward.
According to him, representatives at the meeting presented their respective accounts, but the immediate priority was to ensure the reopening of the school.
Nana Kwadu Kwakye II said the education director had proposed October 28 for the reopening, while the traditional authorities suggested next Tuesday to allow further engagement with the student body before classes resume.
He added that the police would continue investigating the criminal aspects of the matter.
On the interdiction of the school’s headmaster, the traditional leader said the development did not come as a surprise because stakeholders had already been informed that an acting headmaster had been appointed.
He, however, stressed the need for a thorough investigation and called on the police to ensure that the truth was established to restore peace and confidence in the community.
“We will urge calm because I want to assure Ghanaians that the right thing will be done and justice will prevail,” he said.
He further urged the police to allow the truth to guide their work, insisting that anyone found to have broken the law should be arrested and made to face the appropriate legal processes.
“The police should let truth prevail so that there will be peace and calm. Those who need to be arrested should be arrested to face the law,” he added.
The controversy surrounding Obuasi SHTS has drawn public attention, with stakeholders calling for accountability, a fair investigation, and measures to ensure the smooth resumption of academic activities.
