Black Queens head coach Lars Kim Björkegren believes Ghana can qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, despite describing the path to the tournament as “really tough”.

Ghana have been drawn against Zambia in the third round of the African qualifiers, scheduled to take place between 23 February and 6 March 2027.

The Black Queens advanced to the third round after thrashing Mauritius 10-0 on aggregate, having received a bye in the opening round of the qualifying campaign.

Björkegren acknowledged the challenge facing his side but remains confident in his players’ ability to secure a historic qualification.

“We have the potential to go all the way,” he said.

“In football, there is no easy game, especially when it comes to qualifying for the Olympics, as only two countries from Africa will go to Los Angeles.

“It is really tough to get there; we need to win. I believe in the girls, and I think we [will] be there.”

Ghana will be hoping to overcome Zambia and progress through the remaining qualifying rounds as they pursue their first appearance at the Olympic Games.

The Black Queens have never qualified for the Olympic football tournament.
