Winning the coveted Artiste of the Year award twice is undoubtedly a fulfilling achievement, but for Black Sherif, the excitement that comes with it does not last very long.
The rapper says the euphoria surrounding the achievement usually peaks on the night of the awards before quickly giving way to the reality of everyday life and the work ahead.
Reflecting on becoming a two-time Artiste of the Year, Black Sherif said the achievement feels good whenever he takes a moment to think about it, but it does not occupy his mind for long.
“It feels good. It feels fulfilling. The euphoria peaks that night. And the next day is just back to working,” he said.
According to Black Sherif, he can wake up the following day and go through his normal routine without even thinking about the fact that he has joined the select group of Ghanaian artistes to win the award twice.
Rather than viewing the award as the ultimate destination, Black Sherif said his ambitions extend beyond the recognition that comes with winning Ghana’s biggest artiste prize.
Asked whether he had been working specifically towards becoming Artiste of the Year, he made it clear that the award was not the final goal.
“I was working towards something beyond that,” he said.
For the ‘Kwaku the Traveller’ hitmaker, therefore, the plaques and accolades may mark important milestones in his career, but the celebration is temporary.
Once the lights go out and the excitement fades, the focus returns to the music, the work and whatever comes next.
