Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu is doing well and has received the necessary medical attention following an incident during a speech at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
His office, in a statement signed by his Chief of Staff, Ivan Dzakpasu, assured the public that the MP is in good condition while appealing to the public to disregard unverified reports and speculation circulating on social media.
“The Office of the Honourable Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr Francis-Xavier Sosu, has taken note of reports, videos, and other content circulating on social media concerning an incident involving the Honourable Member during a speech at GIMPA today,” the statement said.
The office expressed appreciation to constituents, supporters and well-wishers for their concern, prayers and messages of support following the incident.
It also urged the public to remain calm, stressing that further information would be communicated through the MP’s official channels when necessary.
The statement comes after Dr Sosu appeared to lose his balance while delivering a speech at GIMPA.
The MP had been speaking about his journey into leadership and his opportunities to serve, recounting his early days at St John’s Grammar School, where he served as a class captain before rising through various student leadership positions to become SRC General Secretary and later Senior Boys Prefect.
During the address, his movement became unusual and his speech appeared difficult to follow. Two people close to him quickly moved to support him as he appeared to slump and almost fell to the floor.
He was subsequently assisted out of the auditorium as the atmosphere in the room shifted from anticipation to concern.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been disclosed by his office, which has instead emphasised that the MP is doing well after receiving medical attention.
