Ghana winger Ernest Nuamah scored twice as Olympique Lyon thrashed Rennes 4-0 to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season.
The 24-year-old returned to Lyon’s starting line-up after missing the club’s Europa League victory over Anderlecht in midweek and made an immediate impact on Saturday night as his side climbed to second in the league table.
Nuamah opened the scoring after just seven minutes, finishing clinically from captain Corentin Tolisso’s pass.
He came close to doubling his tally 11 minutes later when Tolisso won possession high up the pitch and slipped him through on goal, but goalkeeper Brice Samba produced a strong save to deny the Ghana international.
Nuamah, however, made no mistake 10 minutes later. Latching onto a pass from Pavel Å ulc, he finished confidently to give Lyon a 2-0 advantage before half-time.
Zachary Athekame extended the lead after the restart, with Tolisso capping an impressive display by adding Lyon’s fourth goal to seal a convincing victory.
Nuamah has now been directly involved in four goals in four Ligue 1 appearances this season, scoring three times and providing one assist.
His fine form comes ahead of Ghana’s opening matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, having been named in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad for games against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
