Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has called for a dedicated quota for Ga-Dangme youth to benefit from government training, employment and development programmes.
He made the call during a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, at his office to discuss initiatives aimed at advancing the development and transformation of the Ga Traditional Area.
According to the Ga Mantse, setting aside a quota for young people from the Ga State would ensure that they have a fair opportunity to benefit from government interventions targeted at youth development.
He also called for greater transparency in tracking the number of young people who have benefited from such programmes, particularly those from the Ga-Dangme communities.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II said traditional authorities should be provided with statistics showing the number of youth who had been trained and developed through government initiatives over a given period.
He said such data would allow the traditional councils to assess the impact of the programmes and have a clearer picture of how many young people from the Ga State were being reached.
The Ga Mantse noted that the YEA had recently engaged traditional councils and requested lists, describing the development as an indication of efforts to involve the traditional authorities.
He expressed confidence in the agency’s work but stressed the need for the benefits of youth development programmes to be measurable and visible within the Ga Traditional Area.
The discussions also touched on broader development initiatives for the Ga State, including the proposed 24-hour economy market at Agbogbloshie.
The Ga Mantse subsequently urged the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and relevant state agencies to expedite efforts to clear the site earmarked for the project to allow work on the market to proceed.
The engagement with the YEA forms part of efforts by the Ga Traditional Authority to strengthen collaboration with government institutions on youth development, employment and other initiatives intended to support the socio-economic development of the Ga Traditional Area.
