Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says his side still have plenty of work to do despite ending their winless run against Heart of Lions with a 2-1 victory.
The Porcupine Warriors secured their first win in six meetings with the Kpando-based side on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.
However, Tinkler was far from satisfied with Kotoko’s performance and admitted his team made the game unnecessarily difficult for themselves.
“We made things very difficult for ourselves,” the South African coach said.
“You can see Heart of Lions are a good team. They created chances, but we managed the game and we created our chances.
“Overall, there is still a lot of work we have to do defensively. We struggled even when we played against 10 men.”
Tinkler accepted that Kotoko had not been at their best but was pleased to leave with all three points.
“Today we won ugly, but we will take the three points and move on,” he added.
The victory moves Kotoko up to fourth in the Ghana Premier League table with four points from their opening two matches.
The Kumasi-based club will look to build on the result when they travel to face FC Samartex in their Matchday 3 fixture at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena.
