The National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) has received a significant support to its medical infrastructure following a generous equipment donation of the latest-generation Liva-Nova 3T heater-cooler unit, valued at €75,000, from Quantum LC and WBHO.
The donation is intended as an upgrade of the cardiopulmonary bypass system needed to undertake open-heart surgeries, thereby enhancing patient care at the NCTC.
Speaking on the motivation behind the gesture, the Chief Executive of Quantum LC, Dr. Joseph Titus Glover, highlighted their ongoing commitment to supporting vital medical services at the Centre.
“Whenever our good friend needs something, we try and support. We just donated a heater-cooler equipment used to support heart surgeries, and we are happy we show this kind of gesture to the National Cardiothoracic Centre.”
Accepting the donation, Director of the Cardio Centre, Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, expressed profound appreciation for the timely intervention, highlighting the long-standing ties with Quantum LC/WBHO Ltd.
“For my part, I want to say a sincere thank you to Quantum LC /WHBO. Ltd. This gesture is an extension of the friendship forged during our days at Achimota School, which has blossomed today to the benefit of the many patients who need heart surgery.”
The newly acquired state-of-the-art apparatus replaces an older generation equipment being used at the Centre, significantly upgrading operational efficiency during critical cardiovascular procedures.
Reinforcing his commitment to the partnership, Dr. Entsua-Mensah stated that the collaboration between the sister institutions will deepen as they explore new areas of collaboration.
This donation comes on the backdrop of a recent medical outreach by staff of the Cardio Centre to the mining operations of Quantum LC/WBHO. Cardiac-related services were offered to workers as well as residents in the catchment area of their mining operations.
“In the coming years, we as partners want to re-double our collaborative efforts to the greater benefit of Ghanaian heart patients”, Dr. Entsua-Mensah concluded.
