It truly has been an Adonai (Ado9) year for Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon) as they have reclaimed the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) trophy, becoming nine-time champions.
PRESEC’s victory was anything but straightforward, with the eventual winners suffering an early setback in the opening round that left them at the bottom of the standings.
But the eight-time champions quickly found their rhythm.
By the end of the second round, PRESEC had picked up momentum and began closing the gap on their competitors. The turning point came in the third round, where they were the only school to score in the Problem of the Day.
While Accra Academy and St Augustine’s College recorded zero, PRESEC managed four points from the challenge, giving them a crucial advantage heading into the decisive stages of the contest.
The True or False round proved equally important, as PRESEC extended their lead and went into the final round with a comfortable advantage.
They then needed to hold their nerve in the final riddles round, where two correct answers out of the four riddles were enough to seal their victory.
The moment PRESEC delivered their final answer, the auditorium erupted in deafening jubilation, with supporters chanting and celebrating the return of the coveted trophy.
The victory is particularly significant for PRESEC after their recent dominance was interrupted by St Augustine’s College in the last two editions.
PRESEC had faced Augusco in 2024 and suffered defeat, but this time, they turned the tables on their familiar rivals on the biggest stage.
With the win, PRESEC-Legon now have nine NSMQ titles to their name and reclaim the bragging rights ahead of the 2027 contest.
