A parent has raised concerns over the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) after his ward was assigned to the Mampong Akwapim School for the Deaf, despite the child having no hearing or speech impairment.
The parent is among scores of families who have converged at the KTI Hall in Kumasi, seeking help with various challenges arising from this year’s SHS placement exercise.
While some parents say their wards are yet to receive placements, others are questioning assignments to schools they did not choose.
Speaking to Accra-based TV3 at the resolution centre, the frustrated parent said he could not understand how the placement system arrived at the decision to assign his ward to a school for deaf students.
“He can hear, he can speak. How do you go and place him at Mampong Akwapim School of Deaf? That’s what I don’t understand. Why?,” he questioned.
The frustrated father said attempts to seek clarification from officials at the centre did not provide the solution he was hoping for.
According to him, he was informed that securing a place for his ward in a Category B or STEM school would require pursuing a protocol placement.
Faced with the situation, he said he eventually opted for a Category C school rather than pursue the alternative.
“I said then they should keep him in Category C school. I don’t have any option,” he said.
He is now appealing to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to review the placement and ensure his ward is assigned to a school appropriate to the child’s needs.
