Ghana Women’s Premier League champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies fell short in their bid to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League after losing 4-1 on penalties to Nigeria’s Edo Queens in the final of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The Ghanaian side looked on course for victory after taking the lead inside the opening minute through Beline, who gave Ampem Darkoa a dream start.

Edo Queens responded after the break to level the score, but Ampem Darkoa regained the advantage in the 73rd minute when Beline converted from the penalty spot to complete her brace.

The Nigerian champions, however, refused to give up and found a second equaliser to force the contest into a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 in regulation time.

In the shootout, Edo Queens held their nerve, converting four of their penalties, while Ampem Darkoa managed just one successful effort.

The victory saw Edo Queens crowned WAFU B champions and secure qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League, while Ampem Darkoa’s continental hopes ended in heartbreak.
