The Department of Urban Roads (DUR) has announced the temporary closure of part of the Kumasi Inner Ring Road on Sunday, September 6, 2026, to allow the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to carry out essential works.
The closure will affect the stretch between the Ahodwo Roundabout, around the Georgia Hotel Junction, and the Ark Intersection.
According to DUR, the affected section will be closed to traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to facilitate GRIDCo’s decommissioning of conductors as part of ongoing upgrades to service lines linking the Anwomaso and Abinkyi substations.
The Department explained that the temporary restriction is necessary to ensure the safety of workers and road users while the exercise is underway.
Motorists travelling through the Ahodwo Roundabout and Ark Intersection have been advised to plan ahead, use alternative routes and follow traffic signs and directions to be provided at strategic locations.
Recommended alternative routes include Harper Road, Melcom Road and Lake Road.
DUR has appealed to motorists and other road users for their cooperation during the exercise.
“All inconveniences are deeply regretted,” the Department stated.
It further urged the public to make the necessary adjustments to their travel plans and comply with traffic management measures throughout the closure period.
