After more than two decades of turning engineering expertise into practical impact across the global mining industry, Engr. Gideon Nii Drolor Okweesi-Acquaah, PE-GhIE, PE IET (GH), has been inducted as a licensed professional engineer by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Ghana.
His induction formed part of a ceremony at which more than 130 engineers were inducted into the profession under the theme, “Engineering Ghana’s Future: Innovation, Integrity and Sustainable Development.”
For Engr. Okweesi-Acquaah, the milestone represents more than earning another professional title. It marks the recognition of a career spanning more than 23 years and defined by engineering, people development, occupational safety, organisational culture and technical capability within the extractive and global mining industry.
From Metallurgical Engineering to building industry capability
Engr. Okweesi-Acquaah began his career as a Metallurgical Engineer, but over the years, his professional journey has expanded into several areas of organisational and workforce development.
His experience covers engineering, human resource management, occupational safety and health, learning and capability development, technical competency, and inclusion, diversity and equity.
His work has focused not only on how technical systems and operations function, but also on the people who operate them.
A major part of his contribution has been helping organisations develop the skills, competencies and workplace culture needed to operate safely and sustainably.
One of his notable achievements has been the design and development of more than 2,000 technical competency frameworks covering various mining and operational disciplines.
