Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says he is prepared to submit himself to any investigation into allegations of extortion levelled against him by Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
Speaking during Parliament’s emergency recall sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, Mr Afenyo-Markin said he would cooperate fully with any competent investigation if the allegations are formally reported to the appropriate authorities.
He challenged his accusers to report the matter to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) or any other authorised investigative body if they believe he has committed an offence.
“If they muster the courage to report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared,” he said.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said he had already resorted to lawful means to address the allegations, including initiating legal action against some of the individuals and media organisations involved.
He further disclosed that writs had been filed in two separate cases over the claims.
The first suit, numbered GT 1029/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu-Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited and was filed at the Accra High Court.
The second case, GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Eric Agjei and Peace FM and was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.
The Minority Leader said he was confident that the courts would determine the matters fairly and appropriately.
He described his decision to submit himself to the legal process as taking the “high moral ground” in response to the allegations.
Mr Afenyo-Markin also cautioned politicians and other actors against crossing what he considers unacceptable boundaries in political discourse.
“There is a limit to political discourse. There are lines that must not be crossed, and these red lines, once crossed, they must be dealt with,” he said.
He further defended his record in Parliament, insisting that he has carried out his duties as Minority Leader with integrity and commitment.
“I have served in this position with integrity,” he stated, adding that he had remained faithful to the responsibilities entrusted to him.
