The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ahafo Region has demanded an immediate apology and retraction from the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North, Joseph Akparibo, over comments describing the creation of the Ahafo Region as “useless” and of no benefit to its people.

The party made the demand at a press conference held in Goaso, where it condemned the MCE’s alleged remarks and called on him to retract the statement and render an unqualified apology to the people of the Ahafo Region.

Addressing the media, the NPP Ahafo Regional Communication Officer, Alfred Asiedu, said the creation of the Ahafo Region under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had accelerated development and brought significant benefits to residents across various sectors.

He described the MCE’s alleged comments as unacceptable, unfortunate and condemnable, arguing that the creation of the region had contributed to improved development and service delivery for the people.

Mr. Asiedu warned that should the MCE fail to retract his statement and offer an unqualified apology, the NPP would engage traditional leaders, religious leaders and other stakeholders to petition President John Dramani Mahama to remove him from office.

Meanwhile, the NPP Communication Officer for the Asunafo North Constituency, Kobby Nimako Mensah, has also called on all stakeholders to condemn the MCE’s comments.

According to him, the statement is an insult to the people of the Ahafo Region and should not be allowed to go unchallenged.

He therefore appealed to President Mahama to call the MCE to order and ensure that he apologizes to the people of the region and retracts the statement.
