Ghanaian musician Noella Wiyaala, popularly known as the Lioness of Africa, has renewed her strong criticism of the deplorable condition of the Funsi Road in the Upper West Region, insisting that she will continue speaking out until the long-standing problem is addressed.
Wiyaala did not hold back in a video shared on social media, describing the Funsi Road as one of the worst roads in Ghana and questioning whether residents of the area are receiving their fair share of the country’s development.
Her frustration was particularly directed at the conditions residents are forced to endure, including having to walk through active stretches of water because of the poor state of the road.
The musician’s latest comments come after she previously raised concerns about the road on social media, a post she later deleted because she tagged her MP as a ‘stomach politician’, a reference she said she was uncomfortable with.
She, however, made it clear that deleting the post did not mean she had backed down from the issue.
According to Wiyaala, the Member of Parliament for the area subsequently contacted her and explained that quantities had been prepared and surveys conducted for the proposed road project, with the project now awaiting approval.
The information, she said, only reinforced the need to push the matter further and get the attention of the authorities responsible for approving the project.
Wiyaala therefore turned her attention to the Roads Minister and President John Dramani Mahama, using her platform to put the condition of the Funsi Road firmly back on the national conversation.
She acknowledged the President’s ongoing work but insisted that Funsi must not be forgotten.
“I didn’t make any U-turn,” Wiyaala stressed, dismissing suggestions that she had softened her position after deleting her earlier post.
She maintained that she was simply doing her part by using her influence to draw attention to the concerns of her community.
She warned that she would continue speaking out and pushing for action until the road is actually fixed.
“Until the work is done and the road is fixed, we will keep pushing and will not stop until it’s done,” she said.
