CCTV footage has captured the moment a commercial vehicle crashed into a police pickup at an intersection on the KNUST campus in Kumasi.
The footage shows the police pickup entering the intersection before the trotro crashes into its rear side, sending the police vehicle veering off the road.
The impact caused the suspects being transported in the bucket of the police pickup to tumble out of the vehicle. They were thrown in different directions as the pickup lost control.
The trotro also veered off its lane after the collision and slid onto the grass lawn beside the road.
The incident occurred at the KNUST traffic light leading to Ayeduase.
The police pickup, with registration number GP 1035, was transporting about seven suspected cannabis smokers to the police station after they were arrested during an operation.
Several people, including police officers, passengers in the trotro and some of the suspected cannabis smokers, sustained injuries and were rushed to the KNUST Hospital for treatment.
No death was recorded.
The crash caused significant traffic congestion on the KNUST campus until the damaged vehicles were cleared from the road.
The circumstances leading to the collision are being examined.
