Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko says the club is targeting the ultimate prize in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League after winning the Ghana Premier League last season.
The Yellow and Mauve secured the domestic title in the 2025/26 campaign and will represent Ghana in Africa’s premier club competition.
Medeama have been handed a difficult opening assignment, with five-time African champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo standing in their way of progressing to the next stage.
Despite the challenging draw, Tanko insists Medeama are entering the competition with serious ambitions and are not simply looking to participate.
“We are going there as one of the teams to compete, and so winning the CAF Champions League is our objective,” Tanko told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
Medeama will host TP Mazembe in the first leg at the TNA Park on September 5, with the return leg scheduled for DR Congo on September 13.
Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT.
Tanko, a former Black Stars assistant coach, will be hoping to guide the Ghanaian champions beyond the preliminary rounds as they seek to build on their domestic success and make a strong impact on the continental stage.
Medeama must first overcome Mazembe before progressing further in their bid to establish themselves among Africa’s leading clubs.
