Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says his side has what it takes to challenge for the Ghana Premier League title in the 2026-27 season.
The South African was speaking after Kotoko secured a 1-0 victory over Heart of Lions in a pre-season friendly at the University of Ghana Stadium on Tuesday.
Tinkler, who has previously managed clubs including SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates, said his immediate priority is to ensure Kotoko perform at the highest level throughout the league campaign.
While he has identified a top-two finish as an important target, the 54-year-old believes the Porcupine Warriors have the quality required to compete for the title.
“We have another game on Sunday. A very important game, and then we face Hearts of Oak, and that will be our last preparatory game,” Tinkler said.
“It’s a cup match, but I see it as a preparatory game because the league is the most important aspect for us as a club.
“We want to perform at the highest level in the league. We have the materials to compete for the league, and that’s the most important thing.”
Kotoko are using their remaining pre-season fixtures to fine-tune their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Their final major test will come against rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup, which Tinkler sees as another opportunity to prepare his players for the demands of the league.
The Porcupine Warriors will begin their 2026-27 Ghana Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Debibi United.
