The Ghana Drunkards Association has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his plan to cultivate oil palm on 100,000 hectares of land by 2032.

The association said the initiative, if properly implemented, could create jobs, expand opportunities for farmers and strengthen local industries while contributing to Ghana’s economic growth.

In a statement signed by its President, Moses Onyah, the association said it was particularly encouraged by the potential benefits of the programme to young people and rural communities.

According to the association, the expansion of oil palm cultivation could support thousands of farmers and workers and generate opportunities across the value chain, including cultivation, processing, transportation and manufacturing.

It therefore urged the government to provide sustained investment, ensure transparency in the implementation of the programme and offer strong support to smallholder farmers.

The association also called for measures to protect landowners, promote environmentally responsible farming and ensure that communities hosting the initiative derive meaningful benefits from it.

“The Ghana Drunkards Association stands ready to support national development initiatives that improve livelihoods and put money in the pockets of ordinary Ghanaians,” the statement said.

The association further urged stakeholders to collaborate with the government to achieve the 100,000-hectare oil palm cultivation target by 2032.

It said the initiative represented an ambitious agricultural goal that could contribute to job creation, rural development and broader economic transformation if successfully implemented.
