The National Teaching Council (NTC) has announced the finalists for the Ghana Teacher Prize 2026, with outstanding teachers in the private education sector set to receive cash prizes and full sponsorship for further studies.
The awards, being held under the theme, “Empowering Teachers, Architects of the Future,” seek to recognise teachers whose dedication and commitment continue to contribute to the development of Ghana’s education sector.
Representatives of the private education sector, including National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Obengfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, and Dr Aisha Akrofi of GNAPS, reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to supporting quality education delivery.
They said private school associations would continue to collaborate with the government, the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to strengthen education in Ghana.
Cash prizes and sponsorship
As part of the awards, winners in the private education category will receive financial rewards and opportunities to further their education.
The Most Outstanding Teacher will receive a GH¢50,000 cash prize and full sponsorship for a top-up programme at any university in Ghana.
The First Runner-Up will receive GH¢30,000 and full sponsorship for a top-up programme at any university in Ghana, while the Second Runner-Up will receive GH¢20,000 together with full sponsorship for further studies.
The initiative is expected to motivate teachers in the private education sector and encourage excellence, professional development and innovation in teaching.
The Ghana Teacher Prize 2026 therefore goes beyond recognising individual achievements, highlighting the dedication and contribution of teachers who continue to educate, inspire and shape the future of children across the country.
