A 19-year-old woman has been arrested by the Nigerian police or allegedly attempting to poison her husband, just 40 days after their wedding.
The suspect, identified as Aisha Musa, was arrested after allegedly mixing a poisonous substance into her husband’s food on August 12, 2026.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, police received a distress call from an anonymous woman and quickly moved to the scene.
The husband was subsequently taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Police arrested Aisha shortly after the incident. She allegedly confessed during interrogation, although investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
As part of the investigation, officers reportedly recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poisonous substance, together with remnants of the meal allegedly laced with the substance.
The items have been preserved as exhibits as police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged poisoning.
The case comes barely six weeks after the couple reportedly got married.
