Shakira and Burna Boy have made World Cup history with their collaboration ‘Dai Dai (FIFA World Cup Official Song 2026)’, which has become the highest-charting official World Cup song ever on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song surged from No. 42 to No. 17 on the August 1 Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first official World Cup song to break into the chart’s top 20.
That performance also puts ‘Dai Dai’ ahead of Shakira’s iconic ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’, which peaked at No. 38 on the Hot 100 in 2010.
The latest achievement adds to an already remarkable chart run for the 2026 World Cup anthem.
‘Dai Dai’ previously became the first World Cup anthem to top both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, underlining its reach beyond football audiences.
The song recorded 8.6 million official streams in the United States, representing a 69% increase, alongside 13.9 million in radio audience and 7,000 sales during the July 17–23 tracking period, according to Luminate.
A World Cup boost
The song’s momentum has been closely tied to its place in the tournament’s biggest moments.
Shakira and Burna Boy performed ‘Dai Dai’ before more than 80,000 fans during the World Cup opening ceremony at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca on June 11.
The track returned to the global spotlight during the World Cup final on July 19, when Shakira, Burna Boy and other major international stars featured in the tournament’s first-ever final halftime show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The 11-minute spectacle also featured Justin Bieber, BTS and Madonna, giving ‘Dai Dai’ another major platform in front of a worldwide audience.
The song’s latest chart performance also adds to the individual milestones of both artistes.
For Shakira, it marks her 13th top-40 Billboard Hot 100 hit, a run spanning nearly 25 years.
For Burna Boy, the achievement gives him his second top-40 Hot 100 entry and his first as a lead artiste.
