Ghanaian dancehall and Afrobeats star Stonebwoy has waded into the long-running family and business dispute involving Nigerian music duo PSquare,
As an insider privy to some of the information now public, Stonebwoy threw his support behind Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P.
Stonebwoy revealed he became particularly close to Mr P during a period when the issues within the famous music family were unfolding, giving him a better understanding of the situation.
Although he heard only Mr P’s side of the story, he believed him because of the closeness they had developed and what he personally observed during that period.
For Stonebwoy, the situation was not simply another celebrity disagreement. He said betrayal within a family can be particularly painful and can reach a point where it becomes difficult for anyone to continue carrying the burden quietly.
“When I got closer to Peter within the period, I got to know everything going on. He saw me as an insider and even hearing it from one side, I believed him for what he is going through. It is just so much that you can take and I am happy for what he is doing. If you are a real human being, you feel betrayal and it gets to a point.”
Stonebwoy also disclosed that his hit song ‘Blood Don’t Make Family’ was inspired by Peter’s experience with his brothers and the painful realities surrounding the breakdown of PSquare.
It is for this reason the ‘Into the Future’ hitmaker said he was pleased with the direction Mr P had taken in publicly speaking about his experiences, particularly because he believed the singer had spent considerable time protecting his brothers despite their differences.
Stonebwoy recalled sending Peter a message after the latter began publicly addressing the issues, telling him he was happy that people were beginning to see him for who he truly was.
He praised Peter for what he described as his purity of heart, particularly his decision to continue protecting his brothers despite the conflict.
PSquare, made up of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, became one of Africa’s biggest music acts after rising to prominence in the early 2000s. Behind the music, however, tensions within the Okoye family and their wider business structure gradually became public.
The brothers first split in 2016, following years of reported disagreements, before reconciling in 2021 and returning to music as PSquare. By 2024, another public fallout had emerged, with Peter and Paul exchanging allegations over their music catalogue, finances, management and other aspects of their careers.
The dispute also drew their elder brother and former manager Jude Okoye into the controversy.
Peter has spoken publicly about his grievances and experiences, while Paul, who performs as Rudeboy, has offered his own perspective on the breakdown of their relationship.
The competing accounts have kept fans debating and picking sides.

He explained that although he heard the story largely from Peter’s side, his relationship with him was enough for him to believe his account and sympathise with his experience.
Stonebwoy said the situation became so personal that it inspired his song ‘Blood Don’t Make Family’, which reflects on betrayal and the painful reality that biological ties do not always guarantee loyalty.
According to him, Peter treated him as an insider and opened up to him about the challenges he was facing.
Stonebwoy also recalled reaching out to Peter after the singer began publicly addressing the issues surrounding his family and former music partnership.
He said he told Peter that he was happy people were beginning to see him for who he truly was, describing him as someone with a pure heart who had continued to protect his brothers despite their differences.
The PSquare fallout
Peter and his twin brother Paul Okoye, known professionally as Rudeboy, were once one of Africa’s biggest music duos, dominating the continent with hits and sold-out performances.
Their relationship, however, has been marked by years of disagreements, leading to the dissolution of PSquare in 2016. Although the brothers reunited in 2021, tensions resurfaced and the duo split again.
The latest fallout has involved public accusations and disagreements over family matters, music, finances and their respective careers.
The dispute has continued to attract attention across Africa, with fans and fellow musicians taking different sides.
Stonebwoy, however, appears firmly in Mr P’s corner, saying his support comes from having been close enough to witness part of the singer’s experience.
