The Traditional Leader of Kunka in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Nana Kwaku Ponkoh III, has called for unity among National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders, government officials and residents to ensure the sustained development of the area.
He made the call when the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, cut the sod for the construction of a 24-hour economy model market at Kunka.
Speaking to Adom News, Nana Kwaku Ponkoh III, who is also the Adansi Dompoase Abusuapanin, stressed the need for cooperation among government officials, NDC executives and the community to promote development.
He said development projects were meant to benefit everyone irrespective of political affiliation and therefore urged stakeholders to put aside partisan differences and work together.
Nana Kwaku Ponkoh III also called on the contractor to ensure that the market was constructed to the required standards and urged the consultant to closely supervise the project to ensure its objectives were achieved.
For her part, the Obuasi Municipal MCE, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, explained that Kunka was selected as the location for the project because the community had the required land size for the construction.
She said the project falls under Model 1 of the government’s 24-hour economy market initiative and is expected to be completed within 36 weeks.
According to her, the 36-week completion period differs from the eight-month timeline associated with other models of the project.
She added that the project would be complemented by supporting infrastructure, including road networks and an appropriate drainage system, to improve accessibility and enhance the overall functionality of the market.
The project is expected to provide a modern trading facility for residents while supporting local economic activity and creating opportunities for traders and other businesses in the area.
