A New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the position of Ahafo Regional Secretary, Mohammed Baba Gausu, has attributed the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections in the region to the absence of a clear and effective strategic plan.
According to him, the party’s regional leadership failed to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy ahead of the elections, resulting in what he described as an unprecedented and humiliating defeat.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News in Goaso, Mr Gausu said the NPP could have performed significantly better if its leaders had put in place proper strategies to mobilise the grassroots and secure votes.
“There was absolutely no strategic plan from the leaders of the party in the region for the 2024 general elections, and that contributed to the unprecedented and humiliating defeat we suffered,” he said.
He believes the NPP can reclaim its political dominance in the Ahafo Region and defeat the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in both the presidential and parliamentary elections if the right strategies are adopted.
Mr Gausu said he would prioritise strategic planning, grassroots mobilisation and effective coordination if elected as Regional Secretary.
He therefore appealed to delegates to support candidates with the experience and vision needed to reposition the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Meanwhile, another NPP aspirant, Otchere Kwadwo Emmanuel, who is contesting for the position of Regional Nasara Organiser, expressed concern about the party’s declining appeal in Zongo communities across the region.
He attributed the situation to what he described as the failure of previous occupants of the Nasara Organiser position to effectively engage and mobilise Zongo communities.
Mr Otchere pledged to change the situation if given the mandate, saying he has the capacity and experience to make the NPP more attractive to residents in Zongo communities.
He said strengthening the party’s relationship with Zongo communities would be crucial to expanding the NPP’s electoral base and improving its chances in future elections.
