The Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has confirmed Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I as the new leader of the church following the death of its founder, Apostle Emeritus Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The Mission said Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I was selected by the council of elders in accordance with a succession arrangement established by the late founder.
His confirmation was announced during a National Joint Intercessory Prayer Service held in honour of Apostle Emeritus Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka as part of activities marking his birth month.
The service, held under the theme “Intercessory Prayer to Mark the Birth Month of Our Founder As He Rests in His Glory,” brought together members of the Mission to commemorate the founder’s life and pray for the continued growth and progress of the church.
According to the Mission, the late founder had anticipated the need for a succession plan and directed that, after his death, the council of elders should select one of his three sons to lead the church.
Speaking at the prayer service, the Public Relations Officer of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Akwesi Ofori, said the council carefully considered the founder’s directive before settling on Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I.
“When you look into the books, the founder mentioned that when he is not around, the council of the church should select any of his three sons to be the leader of the church,” he explained.
Mr Ofori acknowledged that the decision was not an easy one but said the council eventually reached a consensus after careful deliberations and consultations.
“I think the council did very well. Selecting the new leader was not an easy task for the council. But with good counsel, they were able to come out with Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I,” he said.
He urged members of the Mission to rally behind the new leader and support his vision to ensure continuity and further development of the church.
“We are gathered here with our new leader, and he is the one we must listen to and follow through with his vision for the church,” Mr Ofori added.
The Mission said the new leadership would build on the legacy of Apostle Emeritus Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka while working to advance the church’s mission and activities.
