The family of 20-year-old Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, whose tragic death shocked the University of Cape Coast (UCC) community and beyond, has announced arrangements for her final farewell.
Innocentia will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. Anthony R.C. Church, Dzodze Hospital, where a burial Mass will be held before her interment at the church’s cemetery.
The family has indicated that there will be no wake-keeping.
The funeral schedule will begin with the collection of her body to St. Anthony R.C. Church, Dzodze Hospital, for laying in state and the burial Mass, followed immediately by the interment.
A memorial and thanksgiving Mass will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the same church to honour her life and legacy.
Innocentia Avinu, a Bachelor of Commerce student studying Human Resource Management at the University of Cape Coast, passed away under tragic circumstances after she went missing in June 2026.
Reports indicate that she was last seen on June 11, 2026, at Ayensu Plaza Hostel on the UCC campus, wearing a black dress. Her disappearance sparked concern among colleagues, friends and family, who joined efforts to trace her whereabouts.
Her body was later discovered on Saturday, June 13, at the shoreline of the university’s coastal beach. She was reportedly found lying face down, with investigations subsequently launched into the circumstances surrounding her death.
