The Obuasi Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Prophet David Kwasi Kankam Beditor, has charged parents to take deliberate responsibility in raising children with strong moral values and relevant technological skills to secure their future.
Prophet David Kwasi Kankam Beditor made the call when he addressed parents, teachers and students at the Speech and Prize-Giving Day ceremony of Pentecost Preparatory School at Adansi Aboabo No. 2 in the Adansi Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region.
Speaking to the media after the event, the Area Head noted that the world is changing fast and education can no longer be limited to textbooks alone. According to him, modern learning is now technology-driven, and parents must make conscious efforts to expose their wards to the right digital tools and skills that will make them competitive.
However, Prophet Kankam Beditor cautioned that technology without discipline is dangerous. He stressed that academic progress must walk hand-in-hand with good character, warning that bad company and poor behaviour can easily destroy a child’s promising future.
“Good character begins at home,” he said. “It is the duty of both parents and teachers to work together to raise God-fearing, disciplined and responsible children. If we neglect the moral side, even the best technology cannot save the next generation.”
He further urged parents not to leave the training of their children solely to schools, but to lead by example at home by instilling values such as hard work, respect, honesty and the fear of God.
On her part, the Headmistress of Pentecost Preparatory School, Mrs. Fatal Joycelyn, commended parents for their support and called for more teaching and learning materials to help develop brilliant students.
She noted that Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools are gradually becoming part of classroom learning, and can be very useful for independent study when properly guided.
But she also raised concern that without supervision, the same technology can become a distraction to children.
According to Mrs. Joycelyn, the goal of the school is to produce academically sound students who are also morally upright and ready to face the challenges of a digital world.
The Speech and Prize-Giving Day was used to reward outstanding students for their academic and extra-curricular performance.
