Eight people, including four children, sustained injuries in a road traffic accident on the Tema–Akosombo Highway after a passenger vehicle suffered a rear tyre burst and overturned.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Eastern Region. The GNFS reported that personnel from the Kpong Fire Station responded to the incident, which took place at Teye-Kwame on Thursday, August 6.
According to the GNFS, the accident involved a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle whose driver lost control after one of its rear tyres burst, causing the vehicle to somersault.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and rescued all eight occupants, comprising four adults and four children.
The injured victims were subsequently transported to Kings and Queens Hospital at Akuse Junction for medical treatment.
The Ghana National Fire Service urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles, particularly their tyres, are in good condition before embarking on journeys to help prevent similar accidents.
