The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Aowin Constituency of the Western North Region has expressed disappointment over the demolition of the old Enchi market by Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Stephen Morcher.
The demolition was conducted to make way for a new 24-hour economy market in the same location.
The Aowin Municipal Assembly’s decision has stirred public outcry, as many residents have voiced their opposition to the action. Following a visit to the construction site, the NPP in the area reiterated its disappointment.
Samuel Yaw Obeng, the Aowin Constituency Chairman of the NPP, characterized the decision as unfortunate.
He argued that the market had served the traders and residents for many years and should not have been demolished without adequate consultation and proper arrangements for those affected.
He urged the MCE to reconsider the approach to the project, stressing the importance of taking into account the concerns and livelihoods of market women and other traders.
Chairman Obeng emphasized that development should be conducted in a way that protects the interests of the people and promotes unity within the municipality.
