The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a robbery syndicate believed to be linked to a violent gold robbery at Wassa Akropong in the Tarkwa area.
The arrests followed investigations into a robbery incident reported on March 11, 2026, involving a gold dealer who was attacked while returning home after closing his business.
According to the police, the complainant, Mr. Orls Oduro, had hired an Okada rider to transport him from Tamakloe to his residence at Wassa Akropong when armed men reportedly intercepted them and robbed them at gunpoint.
The robbers made away with GH¢24,000 in cash, gold weighing seven pounds and six matches valued at GH¢94,530, as well as two mobile phones (an iPhone XR and a Tecno Spark 12).
Following the report, the police launched investigations and conducted intelligence-led operations that resulted in the arrest of four suspects at Duaso and Domeabra on July 21 and 22, 2026.
The suspects have been identified as Kwabena Amuah, 25, alias IK; Mohammed Nasir, 28, alias Mallam; Samuel Agyei, 24, alias Okese-1; and Kofi Gyasi, 26, alias Brefo.
They were arraigned before the Wassa Akropong District Court on July 23, 2026, and have since been remanded into police custody to assist with further investigations.
The Police Command says efforts are ongoing to arrest another suspect identified as Agogo, who remains at large.
Members of the public with credible information on his whereabouts have been urged to report to the nearest police station.
The police have assured residents that they remain committed to fighting violent crimes and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
