Finance Minister and Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has paid glowing tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, describing him as a dedicated patriot whose commitment to national service left a lasting impact on Ghana’s defence sector.
Addressing the maiden annual public lecture in honour of Dr Omane Boamah on Tuesday, August 4, Dr Ato Forson said the late minister exemplified leadership rooted in service, integrity and the national interest.
He said Dr Omane Boamah played a key role in strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces by championing reforms aimed at building a modern, professional and efficient military while placing the welfare of service personnel at the centre of his leadership.
“He served Ghana with conviction. He strengthened our institutions. He believed in leadership anchored in service and the national interest. As Minister for Defence, he worked to build a modern, professional, and capable Ghana Armed Forces. He focused and placed great importance on the welfare of our service personnel,” Dr Ato Forson said.
The Acting Defence Minister noted that although Dr Omane Boamah’s life was cut short, his dedication to public service and nation-building would continue to inspire current and future generations of public officials.
He said the annual memorial lecture would serve as a lasting platform to preserve the late minister’s ideals of patriotism, selfless leadership and commitment to duty.
Dr Omane Boamah was among eight people who died in the Ghana Air Force Z-9EH helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, while on an official mission to the Ashanti Region.
