Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Professor Ransford Gyampo, has called for an end to what he describes as “prosecutorial incompetence,”.
Prof Gyampo has warned that such weak prosecutions will undermine Ghana’s efforts to combat corruption.
In a Facebook post, Prof. Gyampo said the recent Court of Appeal judgment acquitting and discharging former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe exposed significant weaknesses in the country’s justice system.
According to him, the ruling should prompt a renewed focus on upholding the rule of law rather than allowing public sentiment to influence judicial processes.
“The judgment of the Appeals Court speaks to tremendous flaws that should pale emotional sentiments. In a liberal state, optics can’t transcend rules and rights,” he wrote.
Prof. Gyampo argued that Ghana’s anti-corruption drive must be anchored on competent investigations and prosecutions if it is to secure successful convictions.
“The proper fight against corruption should be intolerant of prosecutorial incompetence,” he added.
His comments have generated widespread debate on social media, with many Ghanaians calling for stronger investigative and prosecutorial processes to enhance the country’s anti-corruption efforts.
