The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that a sewerage spillage at Community 6, near Smart Hotel, contaminated the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) water supply system.
In a statement, the Assembly described the reports as false, explaining that the spillage was resolved on July 7, 2026, and did not affect the safety of the city’s water supply.
According to the TMA, officials from both the Assembly and Ghana Water Limited visited the affected area on the same day to assess the situation and established that no contamination had occurred.
The Assembly further indicated that Ghana Water Limited confirmed that the supply line located within the road buffer near the affected area is redundant and no longer in use for water distribution.
The TMA has therefore urged residents and businesses to disregard the information circulating online, describing it as misleading.
The Assembly assured the public that it remains committed to protecting public health and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents within the metropolis.
