Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have suspended plans to initiate a vote of no confidence against Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante following an intervention by President John Dramani Mahama.
The Assembly Members had earlier issued the MCE a one-week ultimatum to resign or face removal from office, citing what they described as serious administrative challenges under her leadership.
Although the deadline expired on Friday, July 31, no further action was taken after President Mahama constituted a committee to investigate the concerns raised by the Assembly Members.
The committee, chaired by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has been tasked with conducting a fact-finding exercise into the allegations against the MCE.
Speaking to Channel One News, Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area and spokesperson for the aggrieved members, George Kuntu Blankson, said they had decided to suspend their planned action out of respect for the President’s intervention.
“We are waiting on the President to act on our concerns this month. By the end of this month, if the President grants our wish, we will be satisfied. But if we do not hear anything by then, they will hear from us,” he said.
Mr Blankson expressed confidence that the committee would thoroughly investigate their grievances and enable the President to take the necessary action based on its findings.
He, however, cautioned that the Assembly Members would reconsider their position if their concerns were not addressed by the end of the month.
