Ghana’s Black Satellites have been eliminated from the group stage of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after failing to register a single victory in the tournament.
The four-time African champions concluded their Group B campaign with a goalless draw against Togo on Sunday at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
Heading into the decisive fixture, Ghana needed all three points to keep their hopes of reaching the semi-finals alive after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria in their opening match before settling for a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso.
Despite creating opportunities, the Black Satellites were unable to find the breakthrough against Togo as the match finished 0-0, bringing their disappointing campaign to an end.
Maxwell Konadu’s side finished third in Group B with two points from three matches, having scored three goals and failed to record a victory throughout the competition.
Although their WAFU B campaign ended in disappointment, Ghana have already secured qualification for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations by virtue of being the tournament’s hosts.
The continental championship will form part of activities marking the country’s 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Following the team’s early exit, attention is expected to shift to preparations for next year’s continental tournament, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) likely to assess both the playing squad and technical team as the Black Satellites seek to build a more competitive side capable of challenging for the title on home soil.
