Celebrated Ghanaian playwright and motivational speaker Uncle Ebo Whyte has paid a heartfelt tribute to his wife, Florence, as the couple marked 43 years of marriage.
In a touching anniversary message shared on July 23, Ebo Whyte expressed gratitude to his wife for standing by him through more than four decades of love, growth and life’s many challenges.
“God has been good. And to Florence, thank you. You have made a husband of me. I love you today more than I did 43 years ago,” he wrote.
The renowned playwright described Florence as God’s greatest gift to him, saying her patience and unwavering support gave him the room to mature into the man and husband he needed to become.
“The greatest blessing God gave me was not simply that I found a wife. It was the particular wife I found. Florence’s patience gave me room to grow into the husband I needed to become,” he said.
While celebrating the milestone, Ebo Whyte reflected on how different he was when they exchanged vows in July 1983, admitting that despite believing he was prepared for marriage, he knew very little about what it truly required.
According to him, neither his Christian upbringing nor premarital counselling adequately prepared him for married life, leading him to what he described as a “gender shock” when the realities of marriage set in.
He acknowledged making several mistakes in the early years of their union, some of whose effects, he said, remain with them today. However, he believes every mistake became a lesson that strengthened both him and their marriage.
Today, Ebo Whyte is widely admired for his teachings on relationships and marriage, but he says that wisdom was earned through years of learning rather than instant perfection.
Using his own journey as an example, he encouraged husbands to remain teachable and urged wives to give their spouses room to grow.
