Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says his recent detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has strengthened his resolve to contest for the position of the party’s National Communications Director.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 15, shortly after his release, Mr Aboagye thanked NPP members and supporters for their support during his detention, saying the experience had made him more determined to serve the party.
“I am out. I am unbroken. And I am more ready than ever. Thank you, patriots!” he stated.
According to him, EOCO arrested and detained him a day after he publicly declared his intention to contest for the National Communications Director position.
He further claimed that inaccurate accounts of the circumstances surrounding his arrest were circulated but expressed confidence that the truth would eventually emerge.
“Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO. A false narrative was put out about my arrest, but Ghanaians are not fools, and neither are the good people of the New Patriotic Party. The facts and the truth will prevail,” he said.
Mr Aboagye also denied reports linking him to alleged financial irregularities involving GH¢55 million, insisting that EOCO never questioned him about such an amount.
He maintained that his detention would not derail his ambition to lead the NPP’s communications machinery, pledging to continue his campaign despite the controversy surrounding his arrest.
“FOR THE RECORDS: THERE WAS NO DISCUSSION OF ANY GHc55million cedis with me by EOCO. None!!!”
He also conveyed his gratitude to party supporters and sympathisers who took to the streets in solidarity during his detention, saying news of their demonstrations reached him and gave him the strength to remain resolute.
“To every party faithful who hit the streets, who raised their voices, who refused to be silent, I saw you. I heard you. From my detention, word of your protests reached me, and it kept my spirit standing tall. You did not just defend Dennis Miracles Aboagye; you defended the principle that no voice can be intimidated into silence.”
Mr. Aboagye maintained that the detention had failed to intimidate or discourage him and insisted he would continue pursuing his ambition to lead the NPP’s Communications Directorate.
“Let me be clear: if the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly. I will lead New Patriotic Party’s Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that.”
He added that rather than weakening his resolve, the ordeal had strengthened his commitment and inspired him to press on with his campaign for the National Communications Director position.
