Afenyo-Markin joins tributes for late Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II

Former Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has joined a growing list of leaders and personalities paying tribute to the late overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II.

Afenyo-Markin expressed deep sadness over the passing of the revered traditional ruler, describing his death as a significant loss to Ghana and the Dagbon Kingdom.

In a tribute shared on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the lawmaker praised the late Yaa Naa for his wisdom, leadership and commitment to promoting peace and unity.

“Ghana has lost a distinguished traditional ruler whose wisdom, leadership and unwavering commitment to peace and unity will be remembered for generations,” Afenyo-Markin wrote.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, chiefs, elders and people of Dagbon, as well as the entire nation, during the period of mourning.

Afenyo-Markin also prayed for the peaceful repose of the late monarch, adding: “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II, who served as the Overlord of Dagbon, was widely recognised for his role in strengthening peace, unity and cultural pride within the Dagbon Kingdom.

His reign followed years of efforts to restore stability in Dagbon, with his leadership often associated with reconciliation, development and the preservation of Dagbon’s rich traditional heritage.

Following the announcement of his passing, tributes have continued to pour in from political leaders, traditional authorities and citizens across Ghana, celebrating his contributions to the kingdom and the country.
