Abuakwa South MP condemns Kyebi Zongo shooting, calls for calm and thorough investigation

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Kingsley Agyemang has condemned the reported shooting incident at Kyebi Zongo in the Eastern Region, describing it as unfortunate and calling for calm as investigations continue.

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 12, the MP expressed deep concern over reports that a confrontation between some youth and military personnel on Saturday, July 11, resulted in the shooting and injury of a young man.

The lawmaker said he strongly condemns every form of violence and brutality that endangers the lives and safety of residents.

“While the full facts surrounding the incident are yet to be officially established, no community should have to witness such unfortunate scenes,” the statement said.

According to the MP, he has been informed that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at the Kyebi Government Hospital.

On behalf of the people of Abuakwa South, he wished the injured man a full and speedy recovery.

The MP also appealed to residents, particularly the youth, to remain calm, exercise restraint and allow the appropriate state institutions to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He further urged the relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served.

“As Member of Parliament, I remain committed to engaging all relevant stakeholders to ensure that peace, law and order prevail within our constituency,” he stated.

He called on residents to remain united, protect one another and work together in the interest of Abuakwa South while the investigations are underway.

The reported incident occurred at Kyebi Zongo on Saturday, July 11, and is said to have involved a confrontation between some youth and military personnel, leaving one young man with gunshot injuries. Authorities are yet to officially establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
