Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has dismissed claims that the price of kenkey has risen to GH¢7, insisting that she regularly buys the staple food for as little as GH¢3.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show amid public concerns over the rising cost of living, Nana Yaa Jantuah said the highest price she has paid for a ball of kenkey is GH¢5.
“I always buy kenkey for GH¢3. There is nowhere that kenkey is sold for GH¢7,” she said.
According to her, a GH¢3 ball of kenkey is sufficient for her, adding that she sometimes struggles to finish two balls when purchased.
“In the market, I buy one kenkey for three cedis. Even when I buy two, I can’t finish it. I tried buying one for five cedis; it’s also a lot. The highest price I bought was five cedis,” she stated.
Ms Jantuah attributed the relatively stable prices to the availability of maize, the main ingredient used in preparing kenkey.
“There is corn in abundance,” she added.
Her comments come at a time when Ghanaians continue to debate the cost of living and food prices, with concerns over inflation and household expenses remaining a key issue in public discourse.
